Multiple IntelligenceI chose this topic for my wiki because it is something that I believe could change the way teachers teach and the way students learn. I think that using this theory to teach students will not only make them better learners but make teaching more successful and fulfilling. I believe that teaching students in the style that they can best learn can change the outcome of their school career and potentially their future. Top 5 Learnings
If I had to pick one video for everyone to watch it would be the Howard Gardner video because it has some great ideas and information about teaching and more specifically multiple intelligences.
1. It is important to talk to other teachers and share ideas and experiences. Just like every student has a multiple intelligence that is their strongest, every teacher has a multiple intelligence that is their strongest and because it might be different then your multiple intelligence they could have a different way of teaching a lesson that could make it easier for you to teach to your students.
2. When a student actually experiences something instead of just reading about it they are much more likely to remember what they have learned in two to three years.
3. There are ways to cater a lesson or a class to a specific type of multiple intelligence or simultaneously to all multiple intelligences.
4. A teacher has many resources at their disposable and taking advantage of those resources can not only make you a more successful teacher but make your job easier.
5. There are 8 types of multiple intelligences that can “make or break” a students learning experience in a classroom.
Linguistic and verbal intelligence: good with words
Logical intelligence: good with math and logic
Spatial intelligence: good with pictures or design
Body/movement intelligence: good with physical activities
Musical intelligence: good with rhythm
Interpersonal intelligence: self smart
Intrapersonal intelligence: people smart
Naturalist intelligence: good with understanding natural world
Howard Gardner 1. This Video is of Howard Gardner and his theory on Multiple Intelligence. I would give this video a 5/5 because I thought that it was really interesting to hear him explain what the theory was, how it could help in the classroom and how passionate he was about it.
I feel that this video gives a really good description of how important it is for students to take an active role in their learning. Gardner said that if students were to actually have a personal or involved role in their learning they are much more likely to remember what they had learned two or three years later.
Key Learning Community 2. This video focuses on a key learning community and their focus on the multiple intelligence system. I would give this video a 4.5/5
I really like the idea of evaluating students in a different way I also enjoy the idea of teachers meeting and discussing learning techniques and teaching. I think this can help teachers become better teachers and thus help students learn. The idea of flow is a really cool idea and I think if teachers can find a way to get students to do this in a learning activity then they will learn more and remember what they have learned for a longer period of time.
Multiple Intelligence Elementary 3. This video shows a multiple intelligence elementary school. There are some really creative ideas in these video and great examples of how to incorporate multiple intelligences into the classroom and the entire school.
I thought that it was really interesting to see how the teachers incorporate all of the multiple intelligences in to a single subject or lesion. I also like the idea of a rubric and testing students to decide their individual learning strategies so that teachers can teach to the students the way they can learn best. I think that smartville is the best idea I have ever heard. I feel that this idea will help students get excited about school and enjoy themselves.
Forest Lake Elementary School 4. This video is of the Forest Lake Elementary school were they are focusing on technology and how they can utilize it to encourage their students multiple intelligences. Forest Lake Elementary is one of the 250 NASA program learning center schools in the country. I would give this video a 4/5.
I thought that this video was really interesting because of how they used technology to help them better teach to students depending on what multiple intelligence they are. I felt that the principle had a great analogy when she compared a school to the outside world in that everyone is different and does things differently including how they learn. I also appreciated how groups at different levels were given completely different tasks within the classroom instead of the weaker students in a particular subject being given a dulled down version of what the stronger students in that subject are given.
Supporting Differentiated Learning through Professional Development 5. This video shows how the teachers at Forest Lake Elementary School collabeoate to think of different ways of teaching to suite all of the different intellegences within their classrooms. I would give this video 5/5 because it is short and sweet with great ideas.
I really liked the idea of forming a collaborative team. The idea of teachers working together is a great one. I think that just like every child has different strengths every teacher has different strengths and when they work together they can share those strengths with others. The observations instead of evaluations are also a great idea because it gives a feeling of teamwork instead of a chain of command. I think that all of these processes can help teachers teach to their students based on their multiple intelligences or individual learning ability because when teachers collaborate they get to hear different ideas and different ways to teach the same lesson.
How Different Instruction Can Ignite Elementary School Learning
6. This video has some clips from some of the other videos that I have posted but there are other parts of the video that are new and have some great example of what this Elementary school is trying to teach and how they are doing it. I would give this video a 3/5 only because there are parts of it that are in other videos that I have posted.
I feel that Kevin Durden, a teacher at Forest Lake, put the goals of the school into very simple and understandable terms. Forest lake is trying to make learning a comfortable experience were students learn what is listed in the curriculum but in their own way. I think that by treating education in such a way as letting the students do what they are most comfortable doing and what they are best at you are helping them further develop those skills in different ways. I also appreciate that Forest Lake takes time to improve the multiple intelligences of that their students struggle with. Multiple Intelligence by Age, Gender and Location 7. This is a really cool page with a lot of information about multiple intelligence. I would give this a 3/5 because it is interesting but not as useful as some of the other thing that I have found.
I like this page because I found it fascinating to compare different age groups and genders in the U.S. and how their multiple intelligence levels varied. I also enjoyed comparing the different levels of multiple intelligences in the U.S. compared to other countries around the world. Multiple Intelligence Quiz 8. Ok now that you have seen all of the videos that I have posted about Multiple Intelligence and how to incorperate the therory into the classroom here is a multiple intelligence Quiz. I would give this quize a 5/5 becuase it is fun to see what % you are in every intelligence and this lays it all out for you.

I knew what my strongest intelligence was and I knew what my weakest intelligence was, I think pretty much everyone knows what they are best at and what they struggle with. I found it really interesting to see where I ranked in the rest of these categories though. I think knowing where you stand with all of these different intelligences can be a useful tool both in how you learn in school and how you live your life.
